Located in the mountainside above the charming market town of Greve in Chianti La Tana sits in a small 100-acre estate with a large pool, and offers total peace and quiet with all the modern day conveniences. As seen in the Sunday Telegraph

Recently renovated by a team of English and Italian architects, La Tana consists of a large main house, and an adjacent Granary that in the past was used to weather and dry the grapes for Vin Santo and similar wines. The house is approached from Greve by an old gravel road leading up the mountain through olive plantations and vineyards. A high suspension car is recommended, and a Discovery is available for hire with the house.

The villa is surrounded by terraces containing mainly olive trees, and by a gentle oak and chestnut forest. The pool and adjacent granary overlook these terraces on all sides. There are fantastic views looking across the valley to Montagliari and Panzano in Chianti, and then on to San Gimignano. The views from the main terrace are quite breathtaking.
La Tana’s large swimming pool is set in a very secluded part of the gardens close to the house. The pool is surrounded by a hillside on one side and mature planting and trees on the others making this a very private area. The paved surround is furnished with sun loungers, tables and umbrellas.

Near to the pool is a large vine covered loggia with dining table and chairs underneath. There is also a working wood-fired bread oven which can be used for all types of outdoor cooking. This is the perfect spot for long leisurely meals, or relaxing with a glass of local wine overlooking the valley below.

The ground floor of the main house is where you will find the large well equipped kitchen with oven, five burner gas hob, dishwasher and fridge/freezer with icemaker.

The kitchen also has a large open fireplace that can be used for heating or indoor wood fire barbecues.

The adjacent dining area has a dining table which can seat from 12 – 20 people and doors leading out onto a terrace which has lovely views of the surrounding wooded hillside. A further doorway leads into the lounge.

The villas lounge is a beautifully appointed double height room with minstrel’s gallery above. The lounge has several large comfortable sofas and armchairs arranged around a traditional Tuscan inglenook fireplace which can be used for winter or summer fires – logs are provided.

There is a TV with UK satellite channels a DVD player and sound system. A set of double doors opens out onto a terrace, and a further door leads to a utility room equipped with washer and dryer through which there is access to a ground floor bathroom with shower and another door leads out to the garden near the pool area.

Access to the ground floor bedroom is also via the utility room area. This is a lovely large room with traditional beamed ceiling a double bed, writing desk two armchairs and an ensuite with full size bath and handheld shower – please note there are four steps leading up to the bathroom. A set of double doors open out onto a garden terrace which is perfect for morning tea or coffee.

A flight of stone stairs leads up from the lounge to the first floor minstrel’s gallery which is furnished with an armchair and chaise longue. From here doors lead off to all the bedrooms. The two bedrooms off to the right of the gallery both have double beds and ensuite bathrooms with showers and wonderful views down the valley.

The bedroom to the left of the gallery is a suite of rooms which would be suitable for a family group. The first room has a large open fireplace with a double and a single bed.

Four steps lead up from this room to a further bedroom which is very prettily decorated and has two single beds. A door leads from this room to a bathroom with full size bath with hand held shower.

The renovated Granary that is to the east of the house has a spectacular upstairs sitting room with stone walls and beamed ceilings. This room has floor to ceiling windows with panoramic views on three sides over the valley and surrounding countryside. There is also a sound system and TV with video and a computer with dial up Internet connection if required.

A spiral staircase leads from the lounge down to the ground floor bedroom. This bright airy room has a double bed and an ensuite bathroom with shower. Double doors lead outside onto a small terrace surrounded by planted borders of lavender and rosemary with a path leading to the pool area.

La Tana is only available to rent at selected periods of the year. Therefore all reservations must be cleared with the owner before we can confirm a booking.

There is an outdoor working wood fired bread oven which can be used for cooking al fresco meals by the pool.

The granary has spectacular panoramic views from the large lounge windows.
